In Kent, we are set to lose over 18,000 acres of green space to housing development if local councils get their way.
Most of the local council’s Local Plans focus on greenfield development, including Green Belt and AONB. The highest quality agricultural land and protected wildlife habitat will disappear forever.
The Government has formally abolished the national new homes target and over 55 local authorities across England have halted their Local Plan process.
Yet Maidstone Borough Council continues to plough on regardless with its plans to build a garden community near Lenham of 5,000 homes on green fields and approve major planning applications without the necessary investment in new roads and public transport.
This is our last opportunity to make a stand before Maidstone Borough Council forces its Local Plan through.
Please sign our petition calling on Maidstone Borough Council to halt its Local Plan immediately and prepare a revised Plan with a lower number of homes and on brownfield sites only.
If we don’t stop this Local Plan now, we will be destroying our local environment for the next two decades.
We must protect our green spaces. Once it is gone, it’s gone forever.
